Visit PIBO Ever wonder how a tiny songbird weighing less than 10 grams makes the trip from the boreal forests of northern Canada to South America each year? How do they know where to go? How are their bodies adapted for the journey? What is a migration station and why do researchers band birds? What makes Pelee Island a special place for birds and why are there so many species at risk in this area? What can we do to help songbirds? The Pelee Island Bird Observatory provides a variety of interpretive and educational events, as well as environmental education school programs, which explore these and other intriguing questions. Interpretive and Education Events We provide hour-long environmental education programs for school groups, naturalist clubs, and anyone else interested in visiting the Bird Observatory. All program bookings include a post-trip activities package and teacher's guide. To book a program, or to inquire further, please contact the Pelee Island Bird Observatory at (519) 724-2829 or by email. Full day and three day program visits are designed for elementary and high school students in conjunction with the Pelee Island Heritage Centre. Programs can include sessions on: human, geological, and natural history with the Heritage Centre, importance of organic farming (we can help arrange an organic lunch for your students!), and a trip to the Bird Observatory research station. The programs are flexible and can be altered according to age and special emphasis requested by the teacher. To learn more about one or three day group visits, please contact us or our education partner: Pelee Island Heritage Centre: Contact Ron Tiessen, (519) 724-2291 |
